I know a woman who disciplines her three daughters (aged 10, 13, and 15) by "spanking" them, but she never hurts them; it's just the ritualistic aspect that makes them not want to repeat the offense and the fact that their mother was so upset that she had to spank them. She loves them very much otherwise, but if they do something very bad, she makes them stand in the corner for about ten minutes, then she makes them take down their pants and lean over her lap. She gives them three or four light swats with a hairbrush on their bottoms, by which time they are usually crying not because it hurts but because they are upset that they had to be spanked. I was skeptical when she told me how she disciplines, but her girls are all very well-behaved, so I don't know. What do you think of this?
