Interesting bluetooth exerience with Holux GPSlim 240

I bought a GPSlim 240 last week for my E70 running V2 firmware. Worked like a charm and I highly recommended it to my coworker.

My coworker bought one about a week later from a different store. It looked identical, but he couldn't get it to pair with his E61 running V2 firmware. I tried and couldn't get it to pair with my E70 either. We were about to declare the unit faulty and return it when we decided to try pairing his E61 with _my_ GPSlim 240. It wouldn't work!

So...my coworker goes home and upgrades his E61 firmware to V3 and suddenly he can pair with his supposedly broken GPSlim 240 with no problem. (we haven't tried pairing his phone with my GPSlim again)

I'm not sure what to make of all of this, but be aware that there seems to be some compatability issues between some of the Nokia's and the Holux GPSlim.

Weird.

I have the GPSlim 236, and it has no issues with my N80.

Although there is the time I used a PC program to switch the 236's data output from NMEA to SIRF, and I broke it. Luckily, the case is easily opened and the device can be reset by shorting out two pins on the PCB.

I'm using it with smart2go, but the problems we were having were independent of the application (wouldn't work with the built-in E-series location tool either).

I got the 240 and have used it successfully on my e70. I recommended it to a friend and he cannot get it to pair with his htc tytn, he is returning it this week to try another gps.

Here in NYC it takes a long time to get a signal so its not too useful unless I travel.
