Instead of using tires, could you drive a car by the use of magnets?

I was reading a section in my chem book on electromagnetism and was wondering if you could use magnets to steer a car like you do with tires. I mean, by tilting the magnets you could gain speed and by rotating them while their tilted you could turn a corner, but I was wondering if people have already thought of this or if this is even possible.

Just wondering.
