PPL are aware....& believe it or not alot of ppl still fight Pit Bulls...& breed them..therefore only adding to the problem...they are aware...but money talks. It's unfortunate..but this is the land of the free.

ban breeder's all together?? well that would be ignorant...I agree with banning irresponsible breeder's but not reputable ones.

Our society is too lazy to deal with the real problem (BYB's and irresponsible owners) it's much easier to blame a dog...pretty messed up.

Irresponsible breeders and puppy mills should definately be banned, but I will always disagree that only Champion show dogs have the right to procreate. That doesnt mean I think just ANY ol' dog should be bred, because I dont. Two of my 3 dogs are very good representatives of their breeds but I chose to spay them because their pedigrees don't show any viable reason to breed them. BUT---I still think that if someone has a Border Collie that is excellent at rounding up sheep, a Pyranese that is fearless against wolves, or a Labrador that has never lost a single duck BUT none of these dogs has been in a show ring, I still believe the owner has every right to breed those dogs to other comparable dogs and not suffer the onslaught of lectures and insults hurled at them for breeding a dog that didnt win a blue ribbon at some prissy show. Not every dog that wins a Championship is worth a crap when it comes to actually performing at what he was originally bred to do. So what happens if you continually breed him to other Champions that cant perform either? Have you bettered the breed REALLY? There are dogs out there that are a million times better at fox hunting than last year's Champion Beagle at Westminster, so I dont understand people's beliefs that all dogs who arent champions should be sterilized. This blind generalization is starting to make me think that "reputable" breeders are just getting mad that they cant sell their puppies for as much as they want to because there's always a "BYB" out there that will undersell them. I'd rather think breeders are more concerned about bettering the breed, but reading these posts is making me think it's REALLY just all about the money.

because people will always have stereo types and stigma about bullies and other power breeds. I love mine, but I also know that in the wrong hands these great breeds can be awful dogs. Unfortunately we can never control who can/cant own these dogs, we can only do our little part ot help educate the public about our own personal beliefs/experiences.

Banning the breed is easier because it makes people feel safe. Granted, it's an extremely false sense of safety since the bad owners are still living around them and now have another breed that they are ruining. It's cheaper to blame the dog and kill it than it is to lock up the owner and prosecute him. The public doesn't realize how expensive banning the breed actually is and the politicians don't care because they now feel they look good for handling 'the problem.'

How are you going to ban the breeders? The problem breeders, the backyard breeders, the blue breeders - they don't even register their dogs. The only people that will be penalized are the good, responsible breeders because they register their dogs and do everything by the book. It takes money and resources to put an end to backyard breeding. Mandatory spay/neuter laws don't help. You would literally have to go door to door. Well, not even door to door. Just peer over every fence because they keep the mom and litter in the backyard. But, again, in city like Los Angeles, that would take more money and manpower than we have. Education is great. Holding free shot fairs to draw people in then get them signed up for free spay/neuter. Use the fairs to educate the public. Public education and awareness are great, but there also isn't enough funding and man power for that either.

I'm with you on not banning the breed. I'd rather see stiffer dangerous dog laws that don't specify the breed and heavily penalize the dog owner. If your dog gets out of your backyard and bites someone, not only do you lose the dog, you get a huge fine. Depending on your background, you might not even get to own a dog again. If you can't keep it inside the house with your family, properly socialize and train it, you don't deserve to have it. It shouldn't be a right, it should be a privelege.
