Installing car stereo, won't turn on, low voltage reading of 12v constant battery

wire... hmmm? I am installing an Alpine CDA-9883 headunit into my 2004 Honda Civic, making all the connections myself. When I plugged it in to test my wiring job before connecting the speaker wires, it didn't work. My bf figured out why: I had connected the RADIO's 12v constant wire to a speaker wire. He found the correct one and connected them via aligator clips to test it, plugged in the thing again and it turned on! So I was very excited to finish the job, connect all the speakers, and use it only to be disappointed because it didn't work at for me again. Testing the wires again, I found something that seems fishy-
the 12v constant is barely fluctuating under a volt on the meter.

Everything in the car still works fine, including the interior lights with no key in. I don't think my problem is anything besides this wire, and I don't know why it was working before for my bf. The ignition wire reads over 12v when I turn the key to accessory. So did I just pull the constant wire too hard or something and it's loose now? What the heck did I do?

Please help! I've been working on this all day and was feeling very proud of myself until now. :P

Don't Fell Bad,,, Have You Checked The Fuse Box. To Make It Easy On YOu .. I Would Run A Wire From The Fuse box All The Way To your Radio... If Not Then Get A "Y" Cap You Could Attach It To Your AC Power CAble And Then Run A Cable To Your Radio You Know What I Mean...
