Installing Car Speakers?? No Wiring for the speakers?

Okay so i'm trying to install car speakers for my dad's 1988 toyota Pickup that comes standard with only two speakers. Well now I'm trying to install speakers because the speakers that came with the car never worked for it's entire life.

So here's the dilemma:
the pickup doesn't have the wiring for the speakers at all just the power and the antenna (I have no idea what the previous owner did to this car). So i was wondering if I could just connect the positive wire and the negative from the speaker to the head unit directly?

Will That method cause any problems?
Or do i need to connect any other wires?
