installing apps onto samsung s8500...?

hi,i got a samsung s8500,i got a lot of sw and games from the net and i would really like to install them into this phone but if i just put them in the phone and i click in the installed file the phone says that this kind of file isnt supported but its a .apk file so it HAS to be supported,i read that i need to install a software called "appinstaller" or "file manager" and use them to install all the apps i want but i cant install any of the mentioned app so i cant use them to install other stuff,i also tried "iapk" software but after a lot of tries even if it says that the software was installed correctly it doesnt show in the avaiables apps and i cant run it,please can anybody help me out?
