Installation software for T3

I just bought a demo T3 but it didn't come with ANY accessories. I was able to buy a cradle and case, but there's no software so I can sync it with my computer. Any suggestions as to where I could get this software either cheaply or free?

It was a display unit at the store I got it from. It was really cheap, but had no accessories...no cradle, cover, or installation discs. I think there's more than one disc that you need. I downloaded Palm Desktop to my PC but I don't know if that's all I need!

I just finished installing the desktop and did my first sync. I have a really old Palm M125 but had bought it brand new a few years ago, so it had everything included.

I just hope I'm not missing any crucial programs that I might need...but I guess I'll find out!

Thanks again! Much appreciated!

Does your store model T3 have Real player, DTG,
dialer, Palm Reader, etc on it? These and others programs are stored on the install disk. They have to be installed from the disk unless they installed them all onto the display model. If they did you won't need it now but you may in the future. You used to be able to buy it from the Palm Store for $15. Good luck!

First, there is only one CD that came with the T3.

You should download the latest desktop from Palm if you haven't already. The latest provides support for some additional fields if you sync with Outlook.

There is also an updated Outlook conduit to handle the fields and memos longer than 4K (now 32K)

There is a PIM update on the Palm site that provides some additional changes for the T3.

The T3 has DTG and RealPlayer in ROM. Not on the CD. If you plan on using a cell phone (blue tooth) you may want to download the latest version of PhoneLink from the Palm site to get their latest support. PhoneLink comes on the CD, but is also available from the web.

I think you may also be able to download the users manual (PDF) format from the web site as well.

I pulled out my T3 CD and it has the following on the installation menu:

Blueboard, BlueChat, PalmReader (now called eReader), PalmSecurity 5.0p (which is available at the Palm website), and Palm WebPro. (I'd have to check, but I think there is an update for this available at PalmOne as well.)

The CD also included:

Adobe Reader - available from Adobe
Documents to Go - this includes the Desktop portion to exchange documents.
Handmark Solitaire - Should be available from the Handmark site, but may not be licensed.
Java - available at PalmOne
Kinoma Player - I believe this was an eariler version (2.x) and the newest 3.xx would require an upgrade/purchase.
Phone Link updater - mentioned above and available at Palm.
PowerOne Personal Calculator - available at the power one site, but again may not be fully licensed.
RealOne Player - this includes the desktop module to manage MP3's between desktop and Palm. I haven't checked, but this should be available from the RealOne site. (Personally, I prefer PocketTunes over RealOne)

As you can see, most of what came on the CD is available on-line, (although program licensing may still be a concern).

Enjoy you "new" T3.

Excellent information from fnagle - I would only add that although probably unnecessary since your purchased recently, there was some time back an SD Card fix for "older T3s"and you should DEFINITELY make sure you have that. I'd rank that higher than the desktop software!! Bad SD Card "interaction" can REALLY mess you up.

Beyond that, read and search these forum pages and they'll give you a good idea of what you can add ON YOUR OWN to make it great - often the "included stuff" isn't all that great anyway and there are better applications, a lot of them FREEWARE, to make your T3 do what you need.

The folks on this forum are the BEST, most technically advanced of any Palm Forum and you'll get lots of help.

I have a T3 and still think it's the very best Palm Model to date and for the forseeable future - if yours is WORKING then don't worry too much about frills - there's plenty to add and you'll get a heck of a lot of enjoyment and productivity out of your "new one." I like mine so much I'd actually consider a "spare," but unlike you haven't been able to find one!

Good going.
