Inside Deep Throat given 18 certificate

Why anyone would bother making a film about Deep Throat is beyond me. Even by porn standarRAB, it's a pretty feeble effort. Its rep is totally unwarranted.

By today's standarRAB, that film is pretty dire. Its reputation was built on the fact that it was granted a cinema license in the US at its time of release (although a great many cinemas refused to show it), so it was the first hardcore porn movie to break into the mainstream.

If you like that sort of thing, there's much better stuff out there, but I suppose it's worth getting if you want to see a piece of cinema history.

Yes that's the point, it has significance in movie history. Hence this documentary which looks into the whole Deep Throat phenomena.

Deep Throat is not that great, from what I can remember seeing. (it was 11 years ago - time flies!). But the idea of a documentary about it is good, kind of like a real life version of Boogie Nights.

If the film about Deep Throat is as interesting as the one about Debbie Does Dallas shown on C4 recently then good luck to it.
It must be said that porn is a fairly self-defeating subject for a documentary: you can't really show much of the original subject matter and most people involved in its production are dead/morons/criminals. In the case of Chuck Traynor, one of the producers of DT and L. Lovelace's alleged boyfriend, all of the above.
The only people currently involved in porn who actually seemed worth interviewing were Sharon Mitchell and Randy Spears who appear to have survived most of the dangers (in S.M's case, literally) inherent in porn production.

I agree Debbie Does Dallas is much better.

But there are quite of other 70s adult movies which are better; that don't even get a mention.
It seems to me porn used to much better; before VHS bacame popular.

I only saw Debbie does Dallas about 2 months ago, and it is for me, the quintessential, cheeky porn film. No violence, no spitting, no 12 men in one woman etc, but good clean - or should that be dirty - fun.

Its just cheeky!

I saw Inside Deep Throat a couple of months back. It's actually quite fascinating because the backstory surrounding the film (and how it became the most profitable movie in history) is so compelling, and it captures the mood of the early 70s really well. It's well worth seeing, especially if you like film documentaries.

You also get to see a fair amount of footage from Deep Throat itself which I have to admit looks like a load of old nonsense.....:)
