Ok so i have a male neutered friend "cat" about 8yrs old Now. Lately he has a longing to be outside and he gets agitated when i bring him back in. It started when i opened the window for him this spring because he was too big to sit on the window sill with it closed. My window doesnt have a screen but he hasn' ever tried to go outside before so i didnt think it a problem. So how can i make him happy without letting him outside in a dangerous dog filled area? I'm too scared to buy an in home plant because im scared of plants that killo cats as its happened in the past to a dear friend about 10 years ago my friend before this friend actually. I could use some advice on getting his attention off the outside and a way to get him to quit trying to run out on us all the time when opening the doors/windows. even if the window is only open like 1/4th a foot he tries to open it with his paws. Why is he doing this just now and not years ago? Nothing inside has changed
the problem with that is i don't want to encourage him being outside. that's how it all starts then eventually they want out all the time and they try and slip away and it becomes a bigger problem when they get out and decide to stay out all night and then the next time it's a week and then they just never return and you find a dog with your poor friends tail in its mouth a month or 2 later! Or on the side of the road. If i do the leash thing he will still get attacked by a dog only he'll be tied up in tangles and claws mixed with my flesh! It sounds horrible...
