Inpatient rehab question....

Hi,

I am not addicted to my medications, but am dependent on them. I am a chronic pain patient as well. I am going into an inpatient rehab to get off of Oxycontin, Morphine Sulphate, Paxil, and Clonazepam.
They said their time frame to be off of the medications and withdrawals is 3 to 7 days. That seems rather quick to me but I'm not sure what they use to help with the withdrawals..I still have a lot of questions for them.
The main reason to get off of all of this is my husband and I want to start a family and I reallly want to have as safe a pregnancy as I can control.

What do you all think of the timeframe..and any advice for me would be greatly appreciated.

That is very quick. I went to inpatient detox at my local hospital in January for a oxycodone habit. I also wanted to get off my 5 month usage of a low dose of ativan and then clonazepam. The opiate withdrawal was treated with suboxone and I can see that being tapered in the time frame you stated. The clonazepam issue that you have MUST be treated with a slow taper. I was taking such a low dose that the doctor thought that the arabien they gave me at night would be enough to counteract any withdrawal effects. I had no issues until I stopped the arabien after a month. I had jerking and electric zaps for 2 weeks. I am much better now and I never had a craving or desire for benzo usage anyway.

So what I would really be worried about is the abrupt cessation of your clonazepam. Please discuss this with your doctor. The opiate withdrawal will be uncomfortable but it is not dangerous like benzo withdrawal. Good luck to you!
 
Sheri I agree with the other poster that the suggested timeframe to get
off those medications is too rapid. How long have you been on your meRAB?
I wish you a successful taper and that you feel better.

Your post is so right on! You know what you are talking about and I am
glad you are posting on this thread. Benzo addiction, use and withdrawal
truely must be tapered slowly. I feel some rehab clinics are more updated
and knowledgeable than others. I do hope and pray though that one day
all specialists including chemical dependency benzo specials can be on
the same page. Also I pray and hope that PCP's/doctors who perscribe
meRAB will also become more informed about the side effects of what
they are perscribing to their patients. There are some highly educated
doctors in pharmacology and others who are only on first base. All and
all though there are medications that are so wonderfully helpful for
such a vast variety of health neeRAB. That is a positive thing.

Sherri......I am routing for you so much on your tapers in the near future!
I am behind you and I have such a compassionate heart for all that is on
your plate.

Mostly I am concerned about the appropriate time frames to address
benzodiazepein tapers.... that you would be attempting to do at your
rehab clinic. I personally feel rapid and quick tapers have risk involved.
However the treatment your specialists have in place for you... I am
hoping will be of benifit to you on your journey.

Often times rehab clinics (due to insurances and a plethura of other
reasons) cannot address long term tapers in the few weeks a patient
would be treated.~~ So seeing a professional dependency counselor
after your stay in rehab I think would be wise. ~~~

be in the best health you can be. Take your time......get feeling much
better first and get a few more challenges under your belt taken care

My husband and I went to look at on rehab facility today and we're going to look at one more tomorrow. It wasn't the most fun trip to make but neeRAB to be done. I'm hoping to make a decision and admit into one this next week so I'll need all of the support and prayers I can get! :angel:

Musicman: Are the withdrawals still miserable with the use of suboxone for the opioRAB I'm on? Could you tell me how it went for you?
I hate the zaps..I've had those before getting off of antidepressants - everytime I would blink I would get zaps everywhere.

They did mention that the benzo taper would take the longest out of all of them, so I'll be checking more about that time frame.

Janaly: I've been taking the klonopin for 5 years, the Paxil for about 5 years (I've tapered off of other antidepressants on my own), and the pain meRAB for 3 years - my pain meRAB have changed a few times since I started taking them.

So do you think a 7 day total would be way too quick? They did say that if I'm not ready to go home at that time they give you the time you need to feel comfortable and go home.

Can you both please keep helping me with my questions..and anyone else please chime in - I need as much helpful info. as I can get!
