Just got back from seeing this, and BOY did it rock.

All the bad reviews are right, apart from that they hated it. It's thoroughly confusing, has no narrative continuity, all that jazz...

For me, Lynch is at his best when he's incomprehensible and scary. He makes nightmares that actually ACT like nightmares, and follow the logic of nightmares. This is Lynch at his most incomprehensible, and his most scary. Three hours long, and I'd have gladly sat there for more.

The moment I knew this was a great Lynch movie was about an hour after coming out of the cinema, when I realised my brain was going into overdrive trying to piece it together.

Truly a great film. I can see why so many people hated it, though...

Hopefully going to see this tomorrow night. I'm a big Lynch fan so am really looking forward to it.

If it's even more surreal than Lost Highway and Mullholland Drive, then it really will be three hours of weirdness!
 
Saw it yesterday. LOVED IT! :)

It really did go that bit further than his previous films into trippy dreamscape/psyche sequences, and damn, it was so gripping. I'm still trying to make sense of it, but it was a fascinating, terrifying audio/visual experience -- in other worRAB, David Lynch at his best!

Laura Dern was amazing - I've always liked her, but she really impressed me with the depth to her performance in this.

The sound will really make it a worthwhile cinema experience, it's as much a character in the film as any of the actors. The visuals really worked, especially with the distinctive digi-video look (
 
Yeah, it's a great film.
Definately a tricky one when it comes to try and piecing it together (still trying, lol) but a lot of the enjoyment I got from the film was trying to piece together all those story stranRAB.
Loved Laura Dern in it too, absolutely fantastic. Not so sure on Justin Theroux (wasn't really much to his character IMO) and would have liked to have seen more done with Jeremy Irons, but overall great acting all round. Would have been nice to have seen a bit more of Diane Ladd though, she was great in the bit she was in. Harry Dean Stanton was also very good in the role he had.
Can't wait to see it again.
 
Just came back from a second viewing... and as is usually the way with Lynch movies, a second viewing answered a bunch of my questions but threw up a whole load more.

It's absolutely brilliant. And Laura Dern really does appear to be one of the greatest actresses alive.

The fact that it was self-funded, as well... he could do ANYTHING. This really is the David Lynch movie that people who like the "really especially David Lynch-y" bits of David Lynch movies have been waiting for.

Absolutely phenomenal.

(Sorry, I decided to get way more trashed to watch it this time, so I'm probably not saying much of value, but I'm really good at enthusiasm right now).
 
I just finished watching Inland Empire on DVD (it didn't come to my local cinema).
Amazing! I haven't got a clue what was going on.
There's all the usual stuff with blonde wigs, red table lamps and wondering around in dark corridors of the mind. I'll give it a second viewing in a few weeks time and try to make more sense of it.

PS to people on this thread and any other David Lynch fans - do you fancy an in-depth discussion of Mulholland Drive or any other David Lynch films?
