Initial Programming/Updates When Out of Network...?!

Originally started my service in NH. Have since moved to AK and everything has been great. I like the plan I am on, and since Verizon kept saying it was time to upgrade the phone I did. I got the Samsung Reality. Since Verizon is not in AK the *228 did not work. I called Verizon and they ran me through programming manually.

Now, the problem is that they are telling me that until I program it from within the Verizon network my data service will not work. The data service worked just fine on the old phone, but they said that was because the programming was done within the Verizon network. Sounds kind of odd, so I thought I would check.

Is there any way to get my phone programmed or updated outside of Verizons network? They suggested I find a Verizon store, or send it to a relative to get programmed so it will work with all services.

It is just stupid really. The previous phones I got from Verizon took the programming with no problem up here. All features worked without any issues. Now for some reason they don't. I suppose Verizon is just trying to discourage people from using phones outside their network area.

I actually went ahead and sent the phone to a relative in CA to get them programmed. Should have my phone back in a couple of days.

The people that you needed to call was the Verizon Wireless Global Support +1 (908) 559-4899. I was having the same problem... I was able to program the voice service, but not the Data and the regular Customer Service said it couldn't be done, but I talked to the Global Support and all they needed was the SIM Card number under Menu>Options>Advance Options>Sim Card.
