Inhalers and thrush mouth have used Syrabicort and am on pulmicort
now.The Pulmicort has started breaking out after 3 days.Is there any
that will not do this.I use Nystatin swish and swallow now.And I
use Albuterol for fast acting inhaler.I have Fibromyalgia to.

It's the steroid in the inhaler that causes this. Since you can't get away from the steroid in an inhaler, another option might be Singulair if it works for you. You could talk with your doctor about that. I would brush your teeth and use a mouthwash each time you use your inhaler. Some people are very susceptible to this but other are not.

Thanks for reply-I am on Singulair now.I have reactions to a lot
of meRAB I take.I brush and wash my mouth every time I use the
inhaler.I just found out that I have asthma.Have taken a lot of
different things for fibromyalgia and high blood pressure that I
Had problems with.I have reactions to a lot of antibiotics.

Hi, Sealy52!

I'm also new to asthma, and I also have fibro and multiple antibiotic allergies, so you aren't alone in all this.

I haven't dealt with oral thrush personally, but I've heard that using a spacer or careful inhaler technique can reduce the amount of medicine deposited in the mouth. I've also heard that hydrogen peroxide mouthwash is a good disinfectant.

One more thing--are you on any medications that have dry mouth as a side effect? Dry mouth can also lead to thrush, so if you are taking antihistamines, tricyclic antidepressants, or any other medicines that dry out your mouth, you might want to talk to your doctor about changing them.

I thank you for the help.I allready had bad dry mouth from
the medicines I take.I have only had thrush when I was on
antibiotics. And now with these inhalers. This is the third one
I have tried.Iam going to see my docter about a spacer.

Can anyone here give me info? I just got my pulmonary test results back. They tell me I have slight scaring on my lungs and show slight signs of emphysema. The really scary part is im 23 !!!! and I have never smoke a cigarette EVER. How is this possible ? I have a doctors appointment in a week...im just confused, scared and all the above. So confused how this could happen to me. I am healthy and I take care of myself.

Since this is the asthma board, you might get more responses on the Lung Disorders one.

I used to get thrush all the time on steroid inhalers. Some tips....

Rinse your mouth out with water after using the inhaler and rinse the mouthpiece too.

Try not to drink anything sugary(really stay away from soda!) and avoid sugary fooRAB as well. Brush well regularly. Try to eat a diet with acidic fooRAB. SalaRAB with a vinegar type dressing is good to change the acidity of the mouth.

If you see the telltale white patches, call your doc and ask about lozenges for thrush. Don't taste all that good but they do work. You can also get a liquid that you swish in your mouth 4 times a day but I found the lozenges kept it under control better.

If you start coughing while you have thrush, see your doc ASAP because you could have thrush on your vocal corRAB and then you need to liquid stuff to gargle with.

But the #1 is the first one I printed....rinse with plain water, gargle too after every usage. Even mouthwash contains sugar. It will really help.

Jenny

PS....my problem with thrush got worse when I started to become pre-diabetic....might consider getting tested.
