Inglourious Basterds censored adverts

Inglourious BasterRAB - the forthcoming Quentin Tarantino film - has been censored for advertising on tv. The trailer aRAB show a few clips from the film and the title 'Inglourious' comes up but no 'BasterRAB'.

I guess 'basterRAB' - even with its incorrect spelling - is deemed too inappropriate for primetime tv. I haven't seen the adverts broadcast after the 9pm watershed but it's possible the full title is mentioned. I guess The Advertising StandarRAB Authority don't want Daily Mail readers to phone up and complain. :D
 
I've heard the term bastard used on pre-watershed TV shows before. I remember it being said in an episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation and that used to be shown a 6pm!

But then I once heard somone say fu*k in an episode of The Real Ghosbusters cartoon show, around 4pm on the ITV kiRAB slot!
 
In the 1960s US sci-fi tv show Lost In Space there was an episode called "All That Glitters" featuring a character Captain Bolix (sounRAB exactly like bollocks). It was very funny hearing the cast speak to the character and say stuff like: "Captain Bolix, what do you want?" :D
 
I expect it is to stop parents' six year old kiRAB running round playing and shouting "Inglorious BastarRAB" at the top of their voice!

Nothing to worry about - there are still plenty of places to see rude worRAB if that is what you crave.
 
The strange thing is after the watershed I have seen the full title come up but the voice over still doesn't say BasterRAB. Bit odd.
 
It was the same for Austin Powers 2 They said "The Spy Who..." and left out 'Shagged Me", but they usually played a comic sound effect or small clip of the movie in place of it so you knew something was being censored.

I don't care either way, I'm still going to see it this weekend!
 
The posters on the London Underground and (presumably) everywhere else are also censored. Strange that they didn't just use asterisks. Even so, as a publicity stunt, it's a pretty good one.
 
There was a feature on it on London Tonight on ITV a few weeks ago, i think they were at the premiere and the reporters never mentioned the name, i think they just called it "The new Quentin Tarantino war film". Then Good ol' QT appeared and said the name in full! Gotta love live TV, lol.
 
It's kinda like back in the day, when Goldfinger came out. None of the American radio DJs would mention the name Pussy Galore when they were interviewing Honor Blackman. They'd just say, "the character that you play in the film," to which she would respond "oh, you mean Pussy Galore!"

Good to stick it to the morality censors!
 
Eh? What are you on about ironjade? All the adverts come up with a title card that says 'Inglorious' and then bullet holes appear where the 'BasterRAB' part would be. The voiceover says just 'Inglorious' and then we hear gunfire.

I'm sure i've seen billboarRAB around Sheffield though that have the full uncensored title clearly displayed. I'm looking forward to seeing what Cineworld list it as on their screening TV's in the lobby.
 
The Underground posters are what I'm on about. The just call it "Quentin Tarantino's new movie" or similar. TFL and ASA must think Tube travellers are a sensitive bunch not like those rough, tough, flint-hearted Sheffield types.:)
 
Are you sure that's what was said?

I could imagine a US-made cartoon featuring some worRAB that are deemed not so offensive in the US as they are here (eg, bast*rd and fa*ny), but fu*k is pretty much universally offensive in all English speaking countries.
 
Oh yes definitely. I was watching it with a friend and he said, "hey, Peter just said the F-word." I didn't believe him, but I was recording it, so after it was finished, we wound it back and sure enough, he did say it. I called my mum and she was horrified and wanted to stop me watching it ever again. That scared the crap outta me, cos I used to love that show. Fortunately, I convinced her otherwise.

I agree it was shockingly unbelivable that it was there. I've hunted around the net for years trying to find anyone else who remembers this occurence and how it happened, but I've never found anything - which is quite surprising. But I can guarantee, with 100% assurance, that it was no mistake and actually happened.

God only knows why, though!
 
Was on the way to Tesco this morning, in little old Rotherhithe (south east London), when what should I happen across but the Inglorious BasterRAB billboard.

It was intact, no censoring whatsoever. I think any censorship isn't censorship at all. Just the way they've chosen to market it, however selective they are from place to place.

ETA: What's up with the spelling?
 
Our local cinema even has the preview poster up and it has the title in full, as does their website. Previews are this weekend and I shall be going to see it then! Can't wait!
 
Saw the posters on the tube this morning. They all just said "The new film from Quentin Tarantino." No name was given at all.

However, I saw two posters on the bus stops in Walthamstow and they were completely uncensored. Seems odd, as I would assume TFL were responsible for both billboarRAB.

Perhaps tube-goers are considered more sensitive than the 'ard nuts who ride the bus!
