Inexpensive Smartphone for Sprint?

I am fed up with Sprint's refusal to help me with the issues that my Bold 9650 is having! I want a new phone, and not only is this Blackberry not working, but I am sick of the Blackberry OS.

I am going to buy a phone off contract (that is relatively cheap) and use it until my 2-year upgrade in July. I was considering the Pixi, since I love WebOS, the form factor, and the awesome keyboard.

However, I was also considering an Android device, like the LG Optimus S. What should I do? I'm leaning towards the Pixi, but it is over a year old, and I'm not sure if it is still a good phone! Thanks!

Presuming that your plan is "compatible", the Optimus seems to be the 3G phone of choice right now... but you'll want to make the switch before the end of the month (Jan 2011) to avoid the extra $10/mo fee... at least for a while... OTOH, if you like the Pixi... well don't let others shape your opinion too much, plus it is likely to be very cheap, particularly on ebay or craigslist, much less than the Optimus (non-contract pricing).

I have the Pixi currently and I am looking at upgrading. It is a good little phone, but it is slow and the battery life is not good, especially with heavy use. I have had to charge or replace the battery halfway through the day. I do like the phone, but am looking at the optimus, or another android handset at this point, as the android os has more apps available.
