My fiance and I just moved into an amazing apartment with a great patio area. We have a first floor which means the patio doesn't have any barrier. My cat loves to be outdoors but without a fence I just don't see how that would work out. Is there anything that I might be able to use or do short of putting up a fence, which I don't think the apartment would appreciate very much. I don't want to put him in a "kitty condo" either..

Is he just going to have to deal with being stuck inside from now on?

leave the cat inside, especialy without a fence. He/she might run away or get fleas. Maybe get a baby cage to put outside,

The good news is he'll live about twice as long -- safer from diseases, preditors and fatal accidents.

Get a bird feeder. He'll love watching them through the window. Hide bits of dry food around the house for him to "hunt". You could go as far as putting up a series of shelves especially for him to climb on. Your imagination is the only limit. Of course toys and scratching posts are a must. I recommend peacock feathers -- nice and long and that eye pattern makes my cats verrry interested.

Is your cat sterilized? I had a stray cat i fed that later took with me once i moved, but since i moved to a 3rd floor apt and he became indoors only and was very unhappy until he was neutered.

Another thing you can do is get a long lead and a cat harness and tie him outside for a while. Make sure you do this while you can supervise, though... last thing you need if for your cat to be tied down if he's in danger.

Good luck!
