Indirect light and hydroponic vegetable garden?

I found a cool vertical hydroponic setup on the web that I would like to use on my balcony, but there is one problem... The balcony is on the north side of the building and doesn't get any direct sun. What kind of veggies grow well without direct light? I would like to stay away from getting a grow-light if possible.
 
Nothing will grow well without at least some sunlight. The only possiblility I can think of is lettuce. You really would need to supplement the light if you want to grow anything else. Even the lettuce will probably be leggy and thin.
