Gun Club(Mind blowing but very hard to come by. First time I heard it I thought they were new. They came out around '80)

Braid (if you like minus the bear you'll love these guys)
Owls (ditto, there a bit tricky to find since there name's so common and there own album is self-titled, one of there tracks is called 'What whorse you wrote id on' if you wanna find info on them)
Hey Mercedes (ditto again)
Capn Jazz
Modest Mouse
The Sea And Cake
Victory At Sea
Engineers
Slint (one of the greatest indie/rock banRAB ever)
Shipping News
Shellac
June of 44

There's many more but I'll stop there

yes. I'd also suggest
Big Black
McLusky
Shotmaker
Serena-Maneesh
Black Flag (yes, they count as indie, their label was almost like a church of indie and DIY ethics)
Do you mean "indie" as in not signed to a major label, or "indie" by its most recent categorization? If it's the latter, I suggest The Noisettes (who now have a major label deal). They are riveting both live and in audio.
