They'll protect their own, no matter how bad they screw up. From what I've seen in my years, Cops can do whatever they want, if you question them, you're the bad guy.
 
Yea, when it comes down to cop misconduct they protect & serve each other. And then they wonder why they're held in low esteem by a large segment of the population.
 
Just like any other organization, it is the few "bad" ones that make the whole group look bad. We just need to weed out the few so that the many do not suffer through public opinion.
 
If ya don't like how they are on the street, you should see how they are in the prisons. In there, they do even more of what they want to because nobody outside the prison cares about what happens to the prisoners. Complaints by the prisoners are investigated by the prison guards themselves.
 
Yes, I actually counted them. I said in excess of 1,061 because I didn't count the first minute or so because I figured it was just a normal Hog ride which go by here all the time.
 
Just a little information for you, the protest memorial ride was escorted by, you guessed it, the motor officers from IMPD. I guess not all IMPD members are bad, just a few.
 
The majority of my friends and fellow riders are cops and not a one of them feels that the cop in question has a leg to stand on. Believe it or not, many cops feel that the odd bad apple does nothing but give them all a bad name. As in any walk of life, there are bad apples or persons who do not belong in places of authority. It's just so sad that a tragedy such as this has to be the way to shine the spotlight on one particular bad apple.
 
I think folks should avoid making generalizations about large groups of people, including police. There are many I do not like, and some I do not mind, and others that I consider friends. As far as protecting each other goes, that can often be the case. On the other hand I personally know of two officers in this area that were charged with DUI after being pulled over, and this was not after an accident. The officer that arrested them certainly could have brushed it under the rug, but they did not. I am also aware of another local officer that was charged with reckless driving due to excessive speed, I believe it was 120+ in a 55. All three officers in question lost their jobs, as they should have.

Don't get me wrong, there are many cops I really, really dislike, but I find generally if you know the law yourself it is not really that much of a problem to avoid trouble with them. In general I just try to avoid law enforcement that I do not know.

This situation sucks, it is horrible three people lost their lives due to a drunk driver, and really bad that the person responsible will not be charged because of screw ups.
 
I get your point and agree with you. I'm not talking about L.E.O.'s at all, I'm talking about the individual that ran over those bikers, and the politicians that are "cleaning it up" so to speak. There are a few officers on this forum that I know relatively well, and I wouldn't want to offend them as they strike me as being decent individuals, but the person that did this deserves the same punishment that "Joe Schmoe" would get.
