Hello!
I'm doing a psychology independent research assignment and I need to calculate the difference between females and males in relation to usage of emotional support.
I got them to do a questionnaire using the four-point Likert scale (eg, 1 = I do not do this, 2= I do this a little bit, 3= I do this a medium amount, 4= I do this frequently) and the question I'm trying to analyze was "How often do you turn to friends or family for emotional support?"
My sample size is 40, 20 males, 20 females, and their answers were:
Females: 2,2,1,1,4,2,2,4,3,2,2,2,1,1,3,2,2,4,4,2
Males: 3,2,1,1,2,2,2,2,1,1,3,3,1,1,2,2,2,2,1,1
Mean of female answers: 2.3
Mean of male answers: 1.75
I need to find out the difference between these answers using an independent sample t test and also standard deviation.
Can someone please tell me, in simple terms, what I need to do, and what each figure represents?
Hopefully you could all follow that!
I did the maths course a year ago and I'm looking at my book right now for examples but I'm drawing blanks. Simple terminology please, I'm a little bit stress and very tired so complicated answers won't help!
Thank you in advance!
I may not actually need an independant sample t-test or standard deviation, if someone can analyse my data better than me that would be appreciated! Like I said, massively tired and stressed since all of this is due 2mrw and I have to write a discussion and conclusion for it still. Fun! Thanks. =)
