Have just finished watching this.

I have a HD copy so did not watch on channel 4.
Its not a bad film.

THE DTS sound track in mantel on my VSX 817 along with the EPOS ELS and Wharfedale XARUS XR-5000 and my KEFs

Was making the floor and walls shake over the hole film.

Some of the best DTS I have ever heard.
 
It's funny and entertaining. Aliens, dogs getting saved at the last second, a stripper, a warrior President, flag waving and it all happening not just on an American holiday but a day the world will celebrate forever!!

What can you NOT like?
 
Not bad? brilliant film one of my all time favourites!...mind why is it that its always americans saving the planet!...and like in the film Air Force One why is it that the Presidents of the USA play Rambo in these films !!:)
 
That was easily the least believable part of the film.

Everyone knows Macs don't have viruses. :D

Of course had they used a circa-mid-ninties-era Windows PC, it would have taken them about 3 hours to set up the network, so I guess you can understand why they went the mac route. :p
 
WOW! that would be great if they did a sequel better if they did 2 ! ...i always think a sequel works much better if they continue where they left off in the origional film but as often happens its so long to the sequel that the story often is much differant and the actors age so much they never look the same !...mind Will Smith Bill Pullman and Jeff Goldblum must be in it ! for it to make any sense ..also is it too long for a sequel after 14 years? ! Thanks for the link !

whether its crap or not is irrelevant!,,,its all about fun laughs and entertainment and id4 has that in abundance!Roll on the sequel and lots of more cheese !
 
That's one of my favourite all time films in the world you're talkling about, fella. Watch it. :p


The president was Ex RAF in Air Force One and a former fighter pilot in Independence Day. That might explain it. ;)
 
Its a no brainer entertaining film, however i had the misfortune of watching it in the Odeon leicester square when it was full of bloody americans whooping and cheering at every line.

sad sad people, and to think they are in charge of the free world - lord help us.
 
One of the worst movies? stop being so pretentious!

It's hardly great,but it's surely above average.Some of the scenes are truly iconic,the SFX are spectacular and influential,and Will Smith is excellent in this.It's fine as far as big,dumb Hollywood disaster epics go.It's entertaining for the duration and has enough of the correct ingredients included (e.g good vs evil,one liners,impressive sfx,explosions,nice cinematography,good sound etc).

It's not trying to be intelligent.It's mainly aimed at kiRAB and teens.

On the negative,the pro US propaganda is nauseating,it's overly melodramatic,the acting isn't great and the storyline/dialogue is more stupid than a 1950's sci-fi.But the pros way out the cons for what this movie is meant to be.
 
Why wouldn't it be pro american film. The clue is in the title. It's a patriotic feel-good film about how America saves the world from global destruction. For me it's a wonderful piece of sci fi escapism.
 
I'd much prefer to see simulataneous timeline sequels, rather than direct sequels. That is unless Mr Emmerich has some really good ideas, but wants to spoil them all with uneccessary CGI.
 
saw it the first saturday it came out and LOVED IT
you know the place is going to go BOOM ..... but when on the big screen it makes you JUMP .....

it's emminately watchable and i love vivaca fox's face when she sees the massive saucer over los angeles

oh and try to watch the mock news report on the doubledisker ..... i love watching those things too!!

I think that's a given... don't you? The question is exactly how much of the US is left that he hasn't already destroyed?
 
Nobody mentioned yet that it's highly derivative of the original TV series V?

I really don't understand why some people get upset and are so damning about movies like ID4 (or indeed 2012).

It is a tremendously entertaining example of its type.

Do the people who detest it so much only rate movies like Precious?
