Independence Day v War of the Worlds

Close, I like them both. Have to be Independence Day though. But where did the ID4 abbreviation come from? Never understood that. I get that the 4 probably means 4th, as in July..... but just having a 4 on it's own doesn't make any sense!

Yeah, Indepdendence Day is the 4th. 4TH OF WHAT??!!
 
Independence Day is the best of the two. Better special effects and non of that nasty diluted coloring that Spielberg has been using on this and Minority Report.
 
Independance Day definately, against the Speilberg
War of the WorlRAB, but for me neither can touch the original
War of the WorlRAB. I like happy endings and I like endings where the bad guy gets it, real life is far too miserable to be
on screen as entertainment, thank goodness for sci fi & fantasy.
 
I loved ID4 at the time, but now the spell has been broken and I am ashamed of failing to notice the cheddar overload (see President's pre-flight speech).

WOTW on the other hand I ended up liking despite my deep indifference to Tom Cruise. It's the first film in agens that has actually scared me. Not because I think it's likely that aliens will land anytime soon, but becuase they did such a good job of rendering onto film how a large scale massacre would look, sound and feel for the population.

And I don't scare easily at the movies - your average US teen slasher flick usually has me rooting for the slasher...
 
ID4 was pants. It had some amazing sfx sequences, but that's about it. Will Smith punching out the alien was pretty funny, then we get that followe by the President's God-Awful speech and, let's face it, the most rediculous way to defeat an alien fleet of all time. Who would have known that a species from across the galaxy would be using networked Apple Macs to run their shield griRAB? Its a shame they weren't using Windows, as they would have been infected via an internet download the moment they hacked into our satellites and we would have been spared the movie.
 
ID, it's a fun movie that doesn't take itself too seriously, whereas IMO WOTW does and suffers for it. and all the cr** about how the aliens get defeated in WOTW? lame lame lame, especially after what has gone on before
 
have any of you lot moaning how wotw ended, actually read the book?

but yes i prefer id4 much more fun, wotw (the speilberg version) made no sense and changed parts of the original story that really didnt need changing and i actually spent the whole movie hoping the whiney kiRAB would get eaten/killed cruise was ok though.

id4 basically was wotw but the with an updated concept of the "virus"
 
My feelings exactly - absolute tosh although WotW had its fair share of plot holes too. I think the latter could have done with one more big face-off with the alien tripod thingys to round it off. before hitting us with the ending of the book It just...stops giving you the feeling that they ran out of shooting time.
 
Independence Day 2 I read sometime there were talks of it.


If they did do it what would you like it to be about the Aliens come back.
and the aftermar of the acttacks on Earth.

may be world place would came about.
 
ID 2 would be good. I'd like to see either the aliens surviving the impacts on earth and running riot, or better still - the alien fleet turning up to kick
someones *** for ruining their plans.
