Producer Dean Devlin told Sci Fi Wire that he and partner Roland Emmerich are gearing up to make a sequel to their blockbuster 1996 hit film "Independence Day."

"Roland and I, we're back to work on doing a sequel to Independence Day," Devlin said. "I think we finally found a story that we wanted to tell."

Devlin added that he hopes to assemble as many of the original cast members as possible. "I like to think that hit movies are like a cocktail, you know?" he said. "You want to try to get all the ingredients back together again and try to get the same mix. But we'll see. We'll see what we can get back. We'll try to get everyone. We'll just have to see how it plays out."

i think its worth a go, dont you think ?
Hey, if it sucks, then so what, but, you never know, it might actually be great ! Worth a try !

Come on, since when did the simple death of a charactor stop them coming back in some "amazing plot twist"?

Twin brother? Clone? Holo-projection. Or maybe thay could build a robot that looks just like him? I mean, they have the head in a cave somewhere to start with (Star Trek TNG fans will know what I mean - Time's Arrow?). I'm sure Woopi Goldburg can tell them where it is.....

And what about the ID4 alternative ending where Jeff used Windows rather than a Mac and it freezes halfway through the download so he has to get on his mobile to technical support...

Edit: I wonder if Bill Gates helped the Aliens with there computer systems..I mean that was a big security hole they had, you could imagine the alien leader saying "I know I should have visited Windows Updates this morning!"

Sci Fi reports:

Independence Day producer Dean Devlin told SCI FI
Wire that he and partner Roland Emmerich came up with the storyline for a sequel in the wake of the Sept. 11 terrorist
attacks on New York and Washington.

"Since September 11th, [director Emmerich] and I did a lot of reflecting on the movie," Devlin said in an interview while promoting his latest film, Eight Legged Freaks. "It started because people were asking us about images that were fantasy images that then looked so frightening real in the
[wake of] horrible events that took place."

The original 1996 film features eerily prophetic scenes of the fiery destruction of Manhattan, as well as the White House and other world landmarks. While those scenes may be difficult to watch after the events of Sept. 11, Devlin pointed out that ID4 also has an inspirational theme and depicts the world's uniting against a common threat. "After the great attack, everyone comes together who had been at odRAB, and we kind of watched our world do that," he said. "The one good side, I think, of something horrible is how people come together and band together. And through those discussions we started talking about the other parts of Independence Day that we actually liked the most, and that led us to a new story."

hey, jst browsing through the old threaRAB and found this.....anybody got any updated information since the...01-07-2002 lol ?
