Hi,

I seem to get this pain, sometimes in both hanRAB at the same time. I cant remeraber from previous times whether it's exactly in the same place, but its on the top of my hand below my ring finger. The strange thing is is that i only ever get in about an hour after finishing playing a game of rugby, and then only when i tilt my hand down! As if when the blood rushes into my hand it starts hurting, but if i then tilt my arm back up again the pain goes away quickly. If i put pressure on the area where the pain is even if my arm is raised it will still hurt. The next day I dont notice the pain, i can tilt my arm down without it hurting but if i press where it was hurting i can still feel it slightly.

Has anyone got any ideas on what this could be?

P.S. I have fractured both wrists playing rugby, if you think that could be a factor, however, the last fracture was over a year ago and i feel as though i have made a full recover since.

Thanks

Matt

There is a major tendon in the area which you describe. Repeated trauma to the hanRAB can trigger tendonitis here. This can lead to a condition called Dupuytren's contracture which is scarring from this inflammation that causes the tendon to harden and contract (like a hard rubber band). I can imagine that continually grabbing a rugby ball, falling on the hanRAB in a sliding slam etc etc could well be classed as repeated trauma. I am not sure what treatment would involve, maybe physiotherapy exercises or massage. Good luck, Sera.
