inconsistent e61 application crashes

Hello - I just got my e61 yesterday (openbox from www.dynamism.com) and slapped a new 1GB Sandisk MiniSD card in it. I've installed a few applications (Nokia Podcast, Skyforce Demo, Handy Weather, Handy Clock, Handy Task, Opera) and everything was working great.

Around noon today (I've been playing with it nonstop) some applications refused to launch. I restarted a few times and that did not help. I pulled the SIM & MiniSD and restarted, which did not help. So I uninstalled a couple of applications, restarted and it worked fine. Then, an hour or two later, Opera would not open. Nor Nokia Podcast, Skyforce, etc. I restarted, no luck. Then I deleted another application and restarted and it worked!

So I pulled the MiniSD and did a soft reset. Things seem to be working okay now. I've reinstalled a few of those applications and I am running without the memory card.

I'm wondering what the most likely culprit here is. It seems to me maybe I got a bad MiniSD card. I bought it new from Staples, so I don't think it is counterfeit as suggested in some threads here. It is not a MiniSD Ultra but a normal Sandisk MiniSD 1.0gb card.

I thought it was interesting that deleting applications seemed to fix the problem temporarily. I wonder if deleting apps forces the phone to rewrite the card's directory structure or something. Any Ideas?

What is the most likely culprit here?

I had all the apps installed on the card originally, btw.

update

okay, I am still having problems where I cannot open applications. I just quit Messaging with the red key and then remembered that there was another message I wanted to send. Now I can't launch messaging again. Darn it, now it works. What the heck?

is there some weird issue I have not read about concerning applications not wanting to launch sometimes?
 
have you ever updated the firmware with the Nokia Software Updater???

in any case since it is new, perhaps it is really defective, hence better return it...
 
no, I have not updated the firmware yet. I'm apprehensive to upgrade based on the horror stories I have read. Would these symptoms be explained by my older firmware? I'm running:

i had that fw before and i never had any major crashes with that fw, matter of fact i had my e61 for more than 8 months now and i think i only had 2 or 3 crashes...
 
I had few crashes as well before I upgraded..maybe 6 total and I was always toying with the phone but after the first upgrade I experienced 0 crashes. Opera mini was the cause of 90 percent of my pre-fw crashes anyway. I'd say the function key needed for web browsing was the most dissapointing thing about the upgrade. The volume issues never bothered me as I felt it was an even trade off for brighter bolder fonts.
 
I'm going to bring this thread back to life because my E61 keeps freezing up. I have the newest firmware and have reformated my memory card. Basically I do a lot of emailing and I will get a message but when I click on messages to open them it just won't open the message app. It just freezes on the home screen and I have to press end to be able to dial and what not. Any advice?
 
I'm still a noob with my e61, but my problems were solved by exchanging my SanDisk Ultra miniSD card for a Sandisk UltraII miniSD card.

Also I had uninstalled the SMS Accelerator when troubleshooting and that seemed to bork something up. Once I reinstalled that everything has been all happy for me.

I don't think that is really an answer to your question but I thought I would put this postscript on the thread for anyone that might read it via search later on. Good luck!
 
I have problems wifi conections. when i open my web it searches for connections manually. i select search for WLAN. I select a open wlan connection. Then it says connecting for like 30 seconds then it says diconnected. Anyone else having this problem?
 
how much ram does the e61 have? i consider myself a poweruser and have apps close all the time, mostly due to the fact that the webbrowser eats up ram like a fat kid eats cake any wyas to avoid this?
 
I have the exact same problem. Programs launches then later it won't. Only programs that are installed on the phone memory will work but programs that are on memory card won't launch. I tried reinserting the memory card and that works for a bit. So, I'm thinking it's the memory card or memory card slot or the firmware because this all started after flashing to the newest firmware. I tried soft resetting and it didn't help.
 
I'm having a bunch of reliability problems with the E61 since flashing to the v3 firmware. The messaging application freezes up and generally gets into weird states.

Had the v2 firmware before, and that was quite a bit more stable.

The v1 firmware was fairly buggy.

Strangely enough, the N73 v3 firmware seems quite stable. Perhaps something particular to the E61? I'm not sure what is going on, but my SIM is out of my E61 and in a phone that works reliably until the next firmware upgrade.

I did a complete wipe and reinstall when installing the v3 firmware including reformatting the memory card. Also tried switching to a different memory card - that didn't help.
