Im going to be starting college in a few months and I am in need of a good smartphone such as a 7100 so that I have a good datebook and stuff. Any suggestions?

Treo, Sidekick 3, I recommend you not go with BB, since I don't not think they are so strong in the PIM side of things as the others are.

I would recommend the Nokia E61, Cingular 8125/T-mo MDA/HTC Wizard, or the Palm Treo 650. I have all three and they are excellent devices or PIM, messaging, IM, internet, email, etc.

Well I would say the if you wanted the blackberry a 7130c. Blackberrys are a professionals choice of phone. Peronsally I dont care for them and would take a 8125 over them any day but I guess people just love these things.

I would say for now either the 8125 or Treo 650. Most likely i would go with the Treo 650 since its cheaper and in a few months there will be newer better ones available from both HTC and Palm. I think its the HTC Hermes along with the supposide 700w and 700p models for Cingular. There is also the new HP 6915 or something like that which is the better 6515 which has WM5, Wifi and a few other features. There will also be the E62 and Blackberry Stealth released. There is also the GSM Q which Cingular should pick up by the end of the year, but that isnt in Cingulars forcast right now from what i have read. But I mean think about it Motorola just realsed the UTMS version and Cingular picks up all the coolest "gotta have" gadgets so I would assume we would see if for cingular this year also.

So I would say get the 650 now and save up your money for one of the newest better devices we should see in the coming months. Personally I will be picking up the 700w or the Q if they are released around the same time frame. God I am so excited for Q3/Q4!!! So many new cool anticipated phones coming out.

I dont think you will be happy with the Treo 650 only bc its a bit older, why not go for the 700 series either "W" or "P" editions depending on your service provider ...I havent heard great things of the 650 but than again i was also in the market for one myself and did alot of research...my friend just got the newest blackberry and indeed its a useful device with all the bells and whistles you can want but something about those PDA phones just look to big and bulky to me.....

My other friend just switched from Nextel to Cingular and got a really cool phone with a slide out screen which unvailes a keypad and included a stylus pen and windows based platform, i dont know the model but it did everything and was pretty small....

Now inserting foot into mouth. Just got hold of a 7100 on the weekend, its apps seem solid for PIM (more so then I remember) plus it manages to be small and look like a phone. Its also very cheap (especially on HoFo) so I think its your best bet.
