HELP!
I've already made the vet appointment, but the soonest they can see my beagle is Friday at 9AM. I'm very concerned.
My beagle is 4 years old, not fixed. No health problems to speak of. She whines, 24 hours a day. This is highly unlike her. We're talking the husband and I are trying to sleep and shes whining. We're sitting on the couch holding her, and she whines. It only stops when shes eating. Mainly, her mouth is full
She has also exhibited shaking, so hard that her teeth can be heard chattering. She constantly tries to get in our bedroom, and hide under the bed. Again, unusual because she knows shes not allowed in the bedroom at all and does not typically try to enter the room.
This has happened only one other time, back in the summer. The vet sent her home with an x-ray that showed nothing, clomicalm pet anxiety meds, and fiber pills, stating, " I don't know whats wrong with her, she just has anxiety for some reason."
I have tried feeding her, giving her the anxiety tabs, giving her over the counter Wal-Mart doggy anxiety tabs, extra treats, a bath (thinking sore muscles from something), and even have gone as far as draining the anal glands, which is not pleasant I assure you. NOTHING works. Suggestions? Anybody have any ideas what could be the problem?
Thanks to everyone who replied!
At one time, she was crated, however she hated it (tried for months). She's always liked having space, even when she sleeps. She does have another dog to play with, whom she is very attached. She hasn't had any losses or changes. She has a very large back yard to roam in 24 hours a day (dog door). We don't make it out for the walks like we should, which will be changing now that I am starting a day shift job. She is played with often, has lots of toys and chew-bones. No bites or other signs of injury whatsoever (I'm an RN, that's the first thing I looked for).
HOWEVER, my parents had a dog pass recently (that the beagle didn't know) who had some pain medication for arthritis left over. We tried 1/2 tablet, 30 minutes later the whining stopped, and she has slept the best that she has in 2 days. Shes only awaken twice to roam a bit, and went back to sleep. Thank you for all your help. Maybe another day of meds will have her in tiptop shape!
