Inception - How freakin weird and secretive is this movie

I agree with what some previous poster said about the audience being absolutely captivated the entire time.

My heart sank on Friday as groups of spotty oiks sauntered in. But like everyone else they sat silently throughout the film.

Can't wait to see it again. Fantastic cast. Fantastic concept!

I loved this film, best of 2010 by a long way.

Like all the best science-fiction as well, it has a great basis in reality. I've delved into lucid dreaming in the past and loved how much homage this paid to it and how realistic it was - Nolan had clearly done his homework.

Lucid dreamers also need a totem, but it's called a reality check and doesn't need to be a personal object. It's usually something as simple as checking your watch often during the day and making a mental note that you're not dreaming; in a dream the digits/hanRAB will change at random. Also, the concept of dream time being longer than real-time can be applied by some experienced lucid dreamers. It can't be done to the same extent as it was in the film, like 50 years in 'limbo', but there are people who are able to control their dreams to make them play out over a day or more. Also, even the section about your subconscious 'attacking' you isn't entirely fictional - first time I had a lucid dream it was on a busy street, and as soon as I said "I'm dreaming!", the ENTIRE STREET just turned and looked at me as though I was crazy :D

I agree about the James Bond comments; it reminded me of "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" a bit too much, almost as if it'd step over the fine line between "homage" and "rip-off".

Saw this last night.

I'm still not sure what to make of it. I liked it and it was different, and it was interesting and at times it was confusing. I think i'm going to have to see it again a second time just to make sure i understood everything and i'm clear on the whole story. But at the end i didn't feel 'wow' but i also didn't feel it was 'crap' it was just different and weird to anything i've ever seen before. Personally for me it was a difficult film to connect with on an emotional level despite there being a strong emotional core to Leo's character and his background story. With the children yes, with the wife no.

It's a demanding film, it's complex, it makes you think, your concentration is 100% on and your eyes cannot leave the screen. The score is loud, immense and keeps you on edge. The time flew by even though it's 2 and a half hours long. I liked the ensemble cast, my favourite were Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Tom Hardy, the latter who provided a lot of the humour. Ken Watanabe's accent and the way he speaks it was confusing and as a result his dialogue was extremely hard to make out. I don't want to sound disrespectful but you really need to LISTEN when he's on screen as his character is extremely important throughout the whole film.

The only person i didn't like was Marion Cotillard because i felt she was miscast and completely the wrong actress to portray Leo's wife. I found her character very hard to like thus i couldn't totally believe in their 'love' and as a result if you've seen Shutter Island and know the story (the wife, again!) you will find similarities with both characters and having seen both movies i prefer him and think he's much, much better in Shutter Island than he is in this.

Technically the film is magnificant, a real achievement and it was amazing to look at. The zero-gravity fight sequence is incredible! The other action sequences are just as good. I wish i had seen this at an Imax cinema unfortunately my local Glasgow one isn't showing this but they are happy to show Shrek and Toy Story instead (wtf?!).

At the end a large portion of the audience clapped and cheered. Didn't expect that and thought it was a bit too much. Everyone's different.

It's a good film. A really, really good film. But i wouldn't give it 10/10 or call it a masterpiece or perfect. I will need to watch it again. It just didn't pack enough punch for me, maybe it will the second time around.

Despite that it truly is a delight to see a film this Summer that is neither a sequel, reboot/remake or adaption, with a wholly original story which makes Inception the definition of a must see movie.

It could just be that, but the whole "walls closing in on you" thing is a typical dream scenario (i've had it myself, it's scary as hell!). I think that Nolan was dropping hints with that scene though, even if it was merely playing with the audience to mislead them into thinking it might be a dream. The scene was there for a reason.

I couldn't grab a basic storyline form the trailer, so I wrote it off. the the reviews have me intrigued.
Can someone tell me what the premise of the film is?
Thanks

The most mental thing is - since seeing this movie, I had have Inception style dreams.

Where I was in Limbo and an old man.

Where I was down several levels and dreaming within a dream !

In my opinion a sequel would ruin it greatly. The only option could be a prequel or a spin off. I guess after a while you can lose sight of the storyline but for me it seemed like every now and again it kind of stopped and brang the audience up to date. I loved the storyline or storylines because there were so many going at once. I've seen it 3 times now and eachtime a new thought or small storyline comes in to it. The more viewings the more you see which really benefits the movie

It's one of those "I'll need to watch it again" films for me and I WANT to watch it again. The day this is out on blu ray it's mine. Then I'll sit with headphones and really watch this baby. I was going to post more thoughts but I really don't want to risk ruining it for anyone.

I have ordered the bluray of it as well, but until 6th December arrives, I will just have to make deal with the dvdrip that has just become available. (all 2.2gb of it):D

Brilliant film. A very interesting premise, great performances from a great cast, tense and well-executed action sequences, and genuine emotional grip.

And a nice happy ending. In my head, anyway.

You're missing the point. Whichever way the central narrative runs isn't my real concern. Nolan could've made every plot point as clear as a bell or obscured it all to the point of madness, it wouldn't have got around the fact that little of what we see seems to signify or do anything other than service the plot. As Freud once allegedly said "sometimes a cigar is just a cigar," and therein lies the disappointment of Inception, because it could've been so much more.

I actually rather liked the Bond-like stuff in it as it tapped into pure male fantasy (how we dream of being, if you like), a nice thematic touch that could've been explored further, and the concept of entering a person's head, fiddling around, then standing back to watch how the results develop in reality is a fascinating one. But it's wasted on dreary company sabotage (surely they could've come up with something better than that?), all of which jars against all that standard bathos with Leo's wife and kiRAB. But this is the curse of Hollywood - make sure the film has some easy, button-pushing 'emotional' content to get a reaction from the cheap seats. I suppose it was to be expected with a film of this budget though.

Inception is all plot that tells us not enough about its true subject (the nature of dreaming, shall we say). It's really just a story, an okay-ish one. To be enjoyably followed, but not particularly read into. But when a whole dream city so elaborately (and impressively) folRAB over, it would've been nice to have it happen for a reason greater than what's given. I imagine it's this that's got some of the more highbrow critics backs up. One said it would've been a better film had it been made with the same budget of Memento. This sounRAB a little barmy, but, thinking about it, they've actually got a point.

I agree with this. I was thinking the same thing as I came out of the cinema last night. I think the movie deserves some credit because the idea is kind of original but it wasn't anything special and the ending was predictable. The film was enjoyable enough but not nearly as good as the hype. Alas Leo's acting was great though and that Arthur guy was very easy on the eyes.
