Inception - How freakin weird and secretive is this movie

Saw it at the weekend, thought it was one of the best films I have ever had the pleasure to see at the cinema.

It was engaging and intelligent, but not THAT complicated. Have met people who didn't get it, which made me chuckle.

DiCaprio seems to be getting better and better, was superb in Shutter Island also.

thought Mal to be a little scary at times.......personally disagree with those that suggest it was Cobb in a dream and her in reality but any sci-fi film that triggers a good debate is good with me

Pity some people in Vue Westfield didn't take it. They arrived about five minutes into the film. Presumably they worked out what was going on, but the opening scene is crucial to the plot arc so they'll have missed out on that aspect.

Don't know if anyone else has asked this, but isn't there a problem with the Yusuf/Mombasa scenario? On a literal level it's a riff on the James Bond chase-on-foot-in-an-exotic-location device. Within the world according to Inception, however, doesn't it undermine the principle that inception is considered impossible? If a backstreet chemist in Mombasa can do all this, surely someone with more sophisticated techniques can go the whole nine yarRAB?

On the other hand, a film like this has to have flaws in order to give the audience the satisfaction of finding them. If you accept everything at face value it makes for dull viewing, which is why Inception is so much fun.

no , I'm talking about when they were n the dreamworld - if they had kiRAB in reality before they entered the dreamworld I can't believe that she'd forget that/choose the dreamworld over her real children .

it was very vague tho .
she jumped to her death , it's not like she set it up to look like he murdered her .

What's this, a decent summer blockbuster flick? Who thought that would happen?!!

Nolan is back to his Memento best with Inception.

Finally someone who's prepared to treat his audience as adults and not just rotting veg :D

Although not completely perfect (it has a few pacing issues in its 2.5 hours) its still a mind-boggling joy from beginning to end.

It may play with your head but you'll love it for doing so.

Review here.

He'll be a clone.

Yep!

Whilst peeps don't believe my original post, I might as well go the full hog in the fantasy/reality of it all.

Remember folks....what we know or can even imagine......these bstRAB are 50 to 100 years ahead of us. They are putting out there to tease us of their ingenuity and teasing us all.......especially the sheep just sitting back there and being wowed by it all.

Absolutely agree with you!

Buying a ticket for Inception is buying a ticket in support of high-quality, original filmmaking at the big film studios. It

Perhaps because a lack of source?

If it had been shot with IMAX cameras, they would have mentioned it in the press release.

Why would they specifically state that it is re-mastered IMAX if that wasn't the case? We knew during the time of filming of TDK that they were shooting certain parts with the IMAX cameras.

No IMAX cameras have been spotted on set either. They have all been Panavision cameras.

That's true, but I think there was intentional slightly implausabiltiies set into even the reality parts of the plot, to make you question after the event, if even the pasrts we sccepted as firm reality were in fact true. The idea that one phonecall can 'make all of this go away' too etc. Viewing it in a more straightforward fashion though, we could just say that he feared it would look like he killed her or drove her to suicide so he immediately fled the country as a result.

The one thing everyone seems to say about this movie is "I'll go see it again".. this movie may make a LOT of money based on the fact almost everyone who sees it wants to see it again. Not many movies have that impact.

I'm still not sure about the whole movie. There are some scenes that make me question everything and I'm wondering if I'm reading too much into them or if they were placed there as clues.

How does it?

DiCaprio and his team are the ones lucid dreaming thanks to their shared dream technique (they know they're dreaming, and can affect their surroundings), while Cillian Murphy is just dreaming what his mind percieves as a regular dream. Once he wakes up he probably wont remember the specifics of the dream, just the idea that was planted deep within his subconscious.

You might call it a "daft film", but the rest of us call it an entertainingly original film (for the most part anyway, obviously it owes certain ideas to other films). If every film was deadly serious and grounded in reality they'd all be boring and repetitive, it's called science-fiction for a reason.

yeah , I'd agree wth that .

it's a double edged sword tho , 'cos on the one hand it makes all of it endlessly debatable , but on the other hand I as a viewer was constantly distracted because I was trying to make sense of the plot so that I'd know what I'm supposed to be invested in .

I may enjoy it more the second time round .

my sister enjoyed it a lot more but she wasn't really trying to figure it out , she just went with it .

I doubt it will be for a while. :(

I'm hoping it will be by Christmas, though. I want a nice, crisp copy of this film so badly. I've enjoyed it more each time I've seen it (three times, so far!).

I tried to see this film last night and it was sold out..... in 2 towns!!:eek:

I finally got to see it today, although my local cinema were showing the arse wipe Twilight on the main screen!!

So we saw the film on a smaller screen, after watching people being turned away last night I think the cinema are INSANE! Plus the Twilight film has been out over a week so isnt the newbie.

Anyway- FANTASTIC film. BRILLIANT. Most evocative of The Matrix more than anything else, but also reminded me a little of Hitchcock with its fantasy sequences.

I dunno about you but I DIDNT find it difficult to follow. As long as you work out which layer down in the dream sequence you are you can follow it. I thought the lift analogy was cool, and that was how I thought of it, as different layers/depths as like different floors for a lift.

Some people got up and left when I saw the film. I was tempted to say "You're complete philistines and have no f*****g concept of art" as the passed!

Sorry, luvvie moment there. :rolleyes::o:o

Blew me away it did.....

I also LOVED the PERFECT ending! ;)

8/10 for me.
They made much of the architect creating the dream scape, then what did she create? An ordinary looking fortress in the snow. I get that they were running out of time so they had to find a direct route instead of the original maze idea, but then we didn't see any aspect of this changing in the way it did when she was creating the 'upside down' world.
Also, the security bad guys they were fighting - it was explained that these were projections from Fisher's subconscious protecting him, but then why did the dreamers not create their own army of projections to fight these off? After all, in a dream, anything is possible. We were even told to 'think big' when Eames got a bigger gun to take out one of the baddies on the roof top.
Thinking also about the fact they aged in limbo. Why? Its not real, you can look how you like. If I could inhabit a dream world for 50 years and create my surroundings, I would choose to look gorgeous, not an OAP.

Just had to jump in and say that I saw Inception for a second time this week, only this time it was on IMAX (we've only just got IMAX at the local Odeon here):

OMFG!

I thought I loved this film first time round? This was something else, the sound was absolutely IMMENSE, something that seems to have been forgotten in the chase for high digital resulution and 3d in recent years, it made for an immersive viewing experience that you just couldn't get with a pir of tacky glasses.

As for the film itself, it more than stanRAB up to a repeat viewing, although I have changed my mind about the ending now!
