Inception - How freakin weird and secretive is this movie

Yeah, I heard them being sniffy about it on Saturday Review.

Interesting to note that it's had some quite bad reviews to counter the praise, especially in the broaRABheets over the weekend. FT were so-so on it, Sunday Times didn't like it, and the Indy have given it not one but two slatings. Gosh.

I'm seeing it at the end of this week, but a friend has seen it and he didn't take to it either (too up itself, apparently, and more concerned with appearing clever than being clever). We'll see...

The ending wasn't a case of "is it or isn't it" reality, which, yes, would be boring. Cobb no longer cared whether or not he is dreaming. He does not wait to see what happens to the spinner so he his happy to live in this reality or version of reality so that he can be with his kiRAB. Remember that he lived an entire life with his wife knowing all along it was a dream and having no regrets. Now he'd be able to do that with his children. Also, while we don't see what happens to the spinner, Cobb certainly would see that it is still spinning at some point so he certainly knows his situation. I feel pretty certain, like many have said, that this is not reality. There really was no other way of ending it and it sounRAB like this bypsassed you from the unsatisfied post. I suggest watching it again.

What do you mean when you say "the dream had no meaning"?

It's not a question of whether or not its a weak or strong theory, it's just another layer of the film. Embrace the idea (Inception) and enjoy the film all the more for it.

Saw it on Sunday night, brilliant! One of the best films I have seen at the cinema ever.

We did have a group of tweens come in and talk at the start but they all got up and left about 30 minutes in, presumably because they couldn't understand what was going on, so after that no talking and everyone else in the almost packed cinema were engrossed.

Brilliant film, brilliant effects and brilliant ending. I wonder will there be Inception 2....? :D

LOL
You should research "lucid dreams" and stop speaking from your arse, most people can't remember their dreams and the brain only uses 1/3 of its potential.

cosa nostra - Didn't know the Italian Mafia members would figure such film.

I found it confusing the 1st time i watched it and then i watched it again and i did get it. I probably didnt understand it the 1st time because i came 30 mins late lol.

TBH i dont think it was as good as people made it out. The great thing about it, it does make you think alot but I actually preferred the film Salt lol.

well - she thought the kiRAB where part of the dream and wanted to get back to real life - when in fact she was in real life the whole time
the part where she was happily growing old in the dream earlier - well, i think they both originally knew it was all a dream, and spent 50 years in a dream world, knowing full well that it was only a couple of hours in real time.

Astounded, who posted in just after me summerised it better them me regarding your second question.
she set all that stuff up - so his word was invalid. and perhaps she made it look like he drove her to the suicide. just so his world would be made hell, therefore killing himself also, therefore waking up back to "real life"

I agree with that. I don't know where this comparison seems to have popped up from, as good as the films are that Chris Nolan has made, he's not made anything to date that even touches Kubrick. Anyone who thinks that 'The Dark Knight' is better than an artistic masterpiece like '2001: A Space Oddysey' is clearly deluded or a raging fanboy.

They're not "cliched Hollywood techniques", they're storytelling techniques. The ambiguous ending was the perfect way to end the film IMO - it would have been completely jarring to have a clear cut happy/sad ending.

I was wondering if Inception would have been better if it starred the ghost of Bruce Lee haunting a triad submarine. Would that work?
