In your opinion, how much European culture is actually European?

It seems to me that when we don't know the origin of something, a large percentage of us say "Oh it came from Europe?" Why do we do this? How much of what is credited to Europe culturally is really European.

I know that Europeans are NOT the oldest civilizations on this planet, so what do they have that came from elsewhere?

Only serious answers please.
