In WWII, why didn't the Pope speak out about the Death Camps?

I've read that he had at least two chances to speak out about them and to lay it on Hitler to stop them. But he held his silence. Either he was a total creep like Hitler was, or he had some reason to not say anything. But what reason could it be that held his lips shut when they really should have been shouting at Hitler to stop? Hitler was raised Catholic, btw, he would have at least listened to the Pope. Not that he would do whatever the Pope said, but at least he would have listened. Or so I'd like to think.
