child abuse otherwise. Why? What's the difference? If I take off my belt and beat you because I'm mad and angry and trying to dominate you, or I take off my belt and beat you because I love you and want you to behave the way i want you to, what's the difference? 80% of kids in the U.S. are routinely "disciplined" and we can see the tragic result. Adult jerks and juvenile delinquents don't just fall from the sky. People - often semi-illiterate fundies - often try to blame these societal woes on the lack of "discipline", but over 50 years of solid research has consistently shown that the worst of the worst in society had more "discipline" than your local doctor, cop, whatever. Physical abuse, in whatever way it's child - "Discipline" or "child abuse" - is directly correlated with long lasting and often permanent behavioral disorders throughout life.

Yet 80% of the U.S. is still in favor of "discipline" regarding children,, which is especially since since that same newsweek poll also found that same group was only 35% in favor of corporal punishment of convicted felons.

We, the U.S., are the most brutal and barbaric society second only to the middle east. We may have resources (money, properties, ect) but we should be ashamed to call ourselves a developed nation.
"Disipline is used when the child knowingly does something wrong or bad.
Beating/Child Abuse is when punishment is done excessively, done with intent to HARM the child or done for no reason at all. Child Abuse also falls into several mental types of abuse."

Once again, you're all rationalizing. I was raised in a christian home. Bedtime at 8PM, no elbows on the table, say your prayers, ect. When I got busted by the cops when I was 14 for the first of 11 times to today, my family just considered me at first to be possessed by the devil, and then mentally ill with a chemically imbalanced brain. They never stopped to think that maybe it had something to do with being "raised" like an animal. But they rationalized it just as you all do. It was all for my own good. Do good, here's a cookie. Do bad, here's your spanking. To this date they still rationalize it, because it is the christian way to raise children.
I will never give up my fight to put parents who put their hands on children in prison, no matter how they rationalize it. We will win, after all, we are children ourselves and possibly yours either right now or in ten years. Do you ever think about that? Do you ever think about the day that you're old and weak and your young and healthy son can kick your *** ?
