Okay I know that Nokia's signature OS is symbian throughout the years for sometime. But I see all these other platforms such as meego, maemo, and the new Qt that is being developed. I'm kind of lost and confused on what OS is nokia going to be running in the near future. I see symbian (S^3) has alot of potential from the N8 and E7. But is it the future??

And what about the other platforms that are being tested and developed on the different nokia prototypes?? Are they going to go on different nokia phones? Or are they going to be extra OS's that you can install?

QT is a library to make development of Symbian and Maemo easier ( and probably Meego too ); QT is fairly old - Nokia bought the company, TrollTech. The advantage is that applications can be written for all platforms easily.

In the future, high end Nokia phones will be Meego / Maemo, meduim range phones will be Symbian.

Gotcha. I see what's really going on and it makes sense. N900=Maemo and E7=Meego. Hope to see more. Hopefully that'll calm down all the fanboys on the symbian OS.

Yet another thread about this? It doesn't matter how many times or how many ways you ask the question, the answer is always going to be Symbian and MeeGo.

Sorry guys I'm just a newbie. I really wanted and needed to know cause I see the new symbian 3, but I also see some stuff on meego and qt. So I was confused on if we were going to keep symbian or move on to meego or something else. That's why I asked.
