Hello. Has anyone been helped by exercises for sciatica?

I'm not writing much because I'm in pain...hoping someone out there was helped by doing stretches, etc.

Thank you,
Salty

If you are in pain you should have rest, use medication and go for massage. Avoid any effort; even exercises can make it worse at this point.

When you feel better, start basic stretching exercises. then do more if you are ready.

and dont forget to consult your doctor to know the cause and treatment of your pain.

Hope you become well.

Good Luck Salty. I had severe sciatica in 2001 in my left leg. NOTHING helped at all other than the back surgery I had. It was a microdiscectomy. They basically scrape away the disc that is hitting the sciatic nerve. I also had a laminotomy with the same surgery.
I wish you well.
I remeraber after the surgery I was so mad that I waited about 8 months to have the surgery because I was scared. I wish I would have got it immediately.

Are you sure it's caused by your back? There is a condition called Periformis Syndrom if you do search on it you'll find that the impingment of the sciatic nerve causes the same pain but from all the therapy i'v had i'v been taught that the nerve neeRAB oxigen therefor slow stretches are good as well as core. Exercises you can even use the Salompa patches I believe their called, they smell like BenGay but work better, I plased them on the areas of the sciatic nerve that hurt before bedtime to guerantee me a good nights sleep and one time I ran out of meRAB and used the patches instead to the gym and there I was going up hill strolling full speed on the Treadmil and all of a sudden I look down and a patch had fallen out of my pant leg and into the side of my shoe!
So I stopped the Treadmil to go to locker room and all the way there I left a trail of (wait for it.............) yes, mentholated patches!!!!! That was the last time I wore them out but they work for up to four to five hours and can be found at a pharmacy.

Hi Salty

I used to do exercises everyday until i suffered about of Gastroenderitis so i was too ill to do them.
Yet my back felt better while i wasn't doing them so have not done any since.

I do work and do alot of walking but that's it.

My motto is "if it hurts don't do it"!

Sorry i carn't really give you advice on any specific exercises that would help.

Hope you get some relief soon.

Did you try using a balance ball for you sit ups? And you can do pelvic lifts, stand with your back towarRAB the wall and reach for the sky lifting your ribcage slowly and when you bend down go slowly one vertabre at a time as far as comfortable and come back up the same way.'
