In pro sports, why don't players get arrested for fights.?

My first question!

This is just something I was always curious about. In baseball, if a batter rushes the mound and lands a punch, why don't pitchers file assault charges? Is it just an unwritten understood man-rule that the pitchers don't file and the cops are on board and just look the other way? And the pitchers would be ostracized if they tried to do it? Or is there more at play here with the law.

I'd be curious about hockey as well for the standard fistfights that break out all the time. (Not the extreme cases where there were charges because they used their stick)

Thanks!
