In other news...

Seriously, I cannot believe the incompetency in this thread. Keep your blinders on though.

Keep standing for anti-competitive companies. Limit your options. If that's what you like, stick with it!

The only feature worth having was cut from Vista before the halfway point in the development cycle: a relational file system (WinFS).

Hating Microsoft is un-american. Get out! lol but seriously, people said the same thing about XP when it came out but now they love it. When the next Microsoft operating system comes out you will be all pussyhurt and try starting the revolution to stick with Vista.

It has nothing to do with need, but obviously more memory is better. Nobody NEEDS 2GB of RAM in XP, but plenty of people choose to get it because it helps some apps or games run and load a bit quicker.

Vista runs perfectly fine with 1GB RAM unless you are doing hardcore gaming, in which case you already have 2GB RAM anyways because that's what XP gamers playing the latest and greatest have.

People hate Microsoft for mimicking some elements of OSX and hate Vista for not being the best thing ever. What they forget is that Vista is a big step up from XP, and that improved security (even if it's annoying), improved stability (by enforcing a new and better driver model), faster search and safer default settings (like IE7 on Vista being default running in Protected Mode) will make a big difference, especially for people who don't know crap about computers.

As for Aero, people thought Windows XP looked goofy at first and were using Windows 98 settings, but it didn't take long for everyone to get used to it and even like it.

Yea you might as well quit trying to turn the vista haters. You could give them a billion reasons why its good or better than the rest but its not going to change their mind. When they finally do change to it im pretty sure they will be pissed they didnt do it earlier.

I would just like to say thanks for actually offering an intelligent response instead of chastizing me for representing a different (but growing rapidly) segment of the population.

I for one am hoping that Vista's failure to positively STUN people will allow for more competition in the business world. I'm looking forward to the day when we can kick MS to the curb.

Im going to pick up 2 copies of ultimate from the company store for like 50 bucks a pop.

For 50 bucks, ill upgrade.

Funny thing is, i see all these people knocking MS's latest and greatest.

In a year or two, each and every single one of you will be running it.

I doubt Vista will fail, but OSX might hit like 8% to as high as 10% marketshare by the time the next Windows is out assuming they can keep sales of Macs growing at a healthy pace. Although Apple has had an enourmous ballooning of revenue in recent years, it's pretty much been entirely due to the iPod, with only marginal increases in Mac sales. Even with the momentum of media love and "coolness" Apple currently enjoys, the world is still designed to run on Windows, and it'll take a long time for that to every change. Almost every piece of specialized business software in the world is made for Windows, and this creates a barrier to entry for OSX.

I'm not a Vista hater, I'm a Microsoft hater. I entered this discussion just to see what people actually like about Vista or perceive to be innovative or important in the OS market.

Do I run Windows XP? I sure do. Do I support a TON of Windows machines for a living? Yep.

What I will not stand for is Microsoft's failure to innovate or deliver anything worth owning in the OS department. Vista is just the beginning of their downfall. It's too bad that people who openly support Vista and its underlying goals will drag on Microsoft's slow, painful death in the OS market longer than it needs to be.

Microsoft is USING EVERYONE to solidify their business model: EOF perfectly working software (Windows XP, DirectX 9.0x), lock in users to a standard just to run games (DirectX 10), buy up game creation companies to force all games to be written for said standard, profit from mindless slaves.

Wake up, people.

What's stupid about it?

The only thing that's stupid is the amount of people who are unable to see what a problem this has become. It's like a heard of cattle.
