immediately announced a policy? In November of 1968 Lyndon Baines Johnson became President of the US and immediately announced a policy called ‘Vietnamisation’, (a progressive withdrawal of US troops from Vietnam).

Does anyone know whether this is true or false?
2nd T/F - The US troops were defeated during the Tet offensive but their actions at Mai Lai had by this time already discredited the conduct of the US military. ?

Is this true or false?

Lyndon Baines Johnson didn't become president in 1968. He had been president since 1963 and wasn't taken out of power until 1969, where he was succeeded by Richard Milhous Nixon whom had won the November 1968 election. Nixon began the 'Vietnamisation' Policy.

Therefore, it is false. It wasn't initiated in November of 1968 and wasn't announced by Lyndon Baines Johnson.

The US Troops were not defeated at Tet. Tet was an absolute tactical failure for the North Vietnamese and National Liberation Front. It nearly destroyed all of the National Liberation Front in fact. My Lai also took place after the Tet Offensive, so you can't say they had already discredited US conduct in South Vietnam by the time Tet took place.

Therefore, it is false. Tet was a victory for the SEATO troops (which includes the USA) and My Lai did not discredit the US military in South Vietnam prior to Tet, because the My Lai massacre took place in mid March 1968, which was nearly 2 months after Tet had started.
