In digital photography do CCD's and CMOS devices rely on light's reaction with...

...silver to capture the image? I'm working on a short story with a modern day vampire. I'm going with the whole "silver doesn't play well with vampires" dogma to explain why he doesn't show up in photographs but I'd like to know if digital cameras would work on him. I understand that they are semiconductors but are they strictly silicone based or does silver still play a role? I'm hoping that the would work.

I'd also like to say that he shows up in chromium based or brushed metal mirrors and restrict the weirdness just to silvered glass as well.

Does this rationale sound scientifically OK?
