In an attempt to offset hundreds of billions of dollars illegals cost each year ...

The reason that only illegals will take the underpaying/overworking jobs is because the employer is breaking the law and paying under minimum wage. The whole point of the claim that illegals do jobs Americans won't is to suggest that without illegals, we'd have all these jobs that Americans would simply refuse to work and nobody would get their lawns mowed or their floors vacuumed. If we are actually going to enforce the law to make employers pay full legal wages, then there would be more than enough Americans to take those jobs.

And since they were more expensive labor wise....far less of those jobs would exist.

When people say those are jobs Americans won't take....it's because as you noted they have to be full time and pay at least minimum wage. As well as on the books so the owner has to deal with all sorts of taxes and shit.
Americans wouldn't work for that low of a wage, for that long, off the books. Those are jobs Americans won't take....I know this...because they don't take them.

You changed those jobs around and said "well if they were minimum wage and 40 hours a week Americans would!" but then the job wouldn't exist. So even if you would you couldn't. It's a false assertion to add in.

You're saying Americans would take jobs which in reality don't exist.
The argument is that they won't take the jobs as they do exist.

Wife is a naturalized citizen and an immigration attorney.

We always get a good laugh when we hear people say 'that immigrants should just come here the legal way - it's easy!'

This will just make it more difficult - especially for families. The time and money it takes to come here legally is crazy.

Sure they would...everyone has their price. But there aren't enough Americans willing to do those jobs at minimum wage, so you'll start to see the price of EVERYTHING go up in response to companies being forced to pay more to their work force. I'd rather have illegals working for less than minimum wage than be paying $10 for a head of lettuce.

it's ridiculous.

That's why I say that the #1 thing we need to do to combat illegal immigrants is to drastically reduce the time and money needed for your average Joe (Jose?) from Mexico to make it here legally.

In the National Research Council's yearly report on the cost of illegal aliens to the US economy.

http://www.rense.com/general81/dtli.htm

Which was about 348 BILLION dollars a year last time.

and 10.5 BILLION just for California.

And what was the methodology of that detmination?

Half of that could be unpaid taxes on illegal wadges on jobs most americans wouldn't have worked anyway for all we know. Claims like that are very ambiguous.

No, it's a totally valid argument. It's also one you personally don't care about.

Fast food is always hiring.

Sure.

But a study that nobody on either side in this thread has bothered to refute claimed that illegals cost far more than they return.

DE exaggerated, but there should be zero argument, at least in this thread, that illegals are a drain.

If they're a drain, which we all seem to agree on, then the conversation should be about how to stop the problem., not how much DE lied.

that would be the amount that the us taxpayers have to make up for in services, local and federal government program costs, education, healthcare and tax revenue differences.

Dammit, I missed the "jobs US citizens don't want" portion of this thread.

Too late to edit now....

Can you link to the actual study, not just a webpage that cites the statistic?
