2. Give a method of pest control, apart from pesticides, that a famer could use to get rid of insects on his crops.
3. Explain why increasing the temperature in a glasshouse would affect the yield of crops. (give 3 points).
4. Give three advantages of using biological control rather than chemical pesticides to control the number of whitefly.

Fertilisers add nitrogen to the soil, allowing the plants to make more amino acides, which are made into proteins to use for growth. they also add phosphorous which is used to synthesise ATP which the plant uses as fuel

2 introduce a natural predator, eg ladybirds to kill aphids

3 increased temperatures mean increased enzyme rates, meaning increased rates of photosynthesis. more sugar is made, so growth is faster
4)biological control a) can last a very long time b)is specific to the type of insect you wish to kill, and kills little else c) wont harm humans eating the crops
