Importing .DAT and .BAK files / Backup SD Card

I recently lost years worth of Calendar data due to a corrupted file. I have .DAT and .BAK files that look like they contain the information (1-4MB). My question is twofold: It looks like I need to convert them to another type of file to do this Question - what type of file type do I need to convert it to and how do I convert it?

After I retrieve my data can I use an SD disk to back it up or do I need a special backup disk? Will BackupBuddy do this for me? Thanks for any help you can provide. :confused:
 
I believe you can go to the Palm Desktop and import a .dba file from Program Files/Palm/"Username"/datebook folder. After you do that sync that info back to your handheld. I haven't done this whole process, but i have gone as far as importing the info to Palm Desktop.

I also had a problem with a corrupted datebook file on the handheld. If you think the file is still on your handheld, but the info is not displaying in the Calendar app try uising dbscan to see if you can repair the datebook file. That helped in my situation. DAT is the current file. BAK is the backup file on the Windows PC.

Assuming you have a DAT that is for each of the PIMs then you should just be able to confirm the name from your current directory on the PC and take this other DAT and overwrite it to the current file.

As thingdrive pointed out you can import data from an "DBA" file: which is Datebook Archive but this would only contain items that you archived via the archive checkbox on the Handheld or via the Palm Desktop.

If you have the "DAT" files - just use your Windows Explorer to overwrite the existing files - but keep backup copies in another directory just in case.

Regarding SD backup - most users would recommend either Resco Backup or Teal Backup or Backupman or .....the list goes on. Those 3 I just named are all good programs - you can try them on for size.
