not to spoil the party, but women who carry weapons for self defense often end up being assaulted or killed with these weapons. personally, i'll stick to my pepper spray, thanks.

it sucks that it always falls to women to protect themselves... that we're doing little to stop date/acquaintance rape through educating MEN about it. now granted, this won't stop EVERY rape, but i really think we need to work on reshaping young men's attitudes. a woman NEVER owes sex to a man. NEVER.
 
Kit and Lysbyth, both of your comments seem to focus on the same thing, and hit the nail on the head. We do need to have a social change as far as the way men see women. No it won't stop every rape, because as you know Rape is an act of violence, not a sexual act. But it's shocking that you still hear people say things like "Well look ath the way she was dressed". Or, "She was asking for it , the way she was acting".
 
I'm a Master at Arms, better know as military poilice,and I deal with Domestic Violence ofter when a ship comes into port. I really don't want to throw this thread off topic,but i see many guys joke about dumb shit like beating their wifes ,and all that not so funny bull shit. I just want to say rape, domestic violence, or anything of this nature is not funny, and in my personal oppinion should not be joked about.

Remeber it happens to guys too....
stats:
5 out 10,000 men are raped by women.
15 out of 10,000 men are raped by other men.
12 out of 5,000 are physically abused by the spose.

I'm not sure how accurate these stats are but i found them in my training book.
 
Whats even more shocking as I am finding on another board. Its link with in this thread. Is people saying there is nothing that can be done. No in some rapes there isn't but that does not speak for the magority of rape. Also, a sadder thing is people who tell woman and girls if they fight back it only becomes worse.Giving a woman the feeling that she is completly helpless and should just accept the fact she is being raped and hope her rapist doesn't want to kill her.

Fact is more rapist kill their victims as its a crime that can suffer the same punishment as death. It is your body, the only person who will fight hard to protect it is yourself.Nothing is a sure bet, but every bit of knowldge that you get will be a postive note on your side to help pervent this.



Good point to make. I believe in equall rights. If your woman is attacking and hitting you. Guys you need to take a postive step to protect yourself. Either by learning how to bring her to the ground and keeping her there till she is calm or by reporting it. Because of Dometic Violence laws (put into affect for good measures) Its almost impossible for a guy to fight off an attack from a woman, where when the cops arrive they will believe him. However this should not stop you from protecting yourself. Bring her down.. find some means of getting help. Above all else don't be ashamed. Everyone one has the right to protect their lives, their body.
 
i am a rape victim, of more than one attack. being prepared and knowng how to defend yourself doesnt always help, or screaming. the only way to stop an attack is to avoid an situations that can result in an attack. never go out alone with a stranger unless its in a crowed location, lock your house, keep a weapon near your bed, lern to defend yourself, drive with your car doors locked, and follow every piece of advice in this thread. it all helps, but nothing ever stops an attack from happening. rapists are sick and twisted little puppies, oce a rapist has you in his sights, odds are he will try. they are know to study their victims, get to know their habbits, become familar with their lives in every way possble way. it gives them a feel of power. the best way to beat them is to take their power away from them. im rambling...
 
u know i've been to some self defence classes and IF a guy is trying to rape u kicking him in the groin is only gonna piss him off more, yelling for help statiscally does no good either, yelling fire is supposed to help more. just for info sake ;)
