Important breeding beta fish question?

i just got a female beta fish for my male beta fish cause i want them to breed. so i introduced my female to the male and the female had 3 vertical stripes on her body. so i put her in the tank. the male started to show him self and the female started getting very dark. so then the male started chasing her and she started running away. so i left them there and the other day i found the male making a bubble nest and the female was just on the bottom of the tank doing nothing. am i doing something wrong??? please help cause the female is not doing nothing, shes just laying in the surface of the tank. I'm scared she is going to dye or something. is that normal???

Have you read anything on spawning? You should never just leave the female in there, especially if they don't spawn right off the bat. This process is very rough and you need to be on hand in case one or the other is getting beat up badly. she is just hoping he won't beat her up again. If when you place them together and they don't spawn within a few hours, take the female out and try again later. These fish need lots of patient to spawn. Never leave them alone! its a wonder you did't come back to a floating body.
Take the female out, build her back up. Or if she is looking perker afer being removed and still shows the signs of wanting to spawn, try her again.
