Import N80

Hello,

I was on travel in India for the past few months and had a Nokia N80 that I was using there. Now that I have returned to the US, I was wondering if I could configure that phone to be in the US. I am relatively new to this whole cell phone thing and was not able to find any information that was useful by searching. I would like to be able to use my N80 considering it was better than what I had in the US. If anyone can help me out and point me in the right direction, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you.

Go to Nokia USA web site and choose to configure internet and MMS settings from the setup page. The voice and SMS should work as soon as you put US SIM in it.

Thank you for your response dmapr. I thought that the voice and SMS would work as soon as you put the SIM card in but it does not. I get some sort of error telling me that I can only make emergency phone calls from the phone.

I'm guessing your SIM card is registered to a carrier that won't allow you to roam in the United States or the settings in your phone are incorrect. Make sure your phone is set to GSM Only in the network settings. If it was set to UMTS only, then that may also be why.

JonnyBruha, I thought of that as well. When I tried to change the Network Mode from "Dual Mode", it gives me the error "Unable to use Network. Phone is currently in Offline Mode."

I am with Cingular Wireless. Do they prevent roaming in the US?

Sackley, what is it did you do? I planning to get N80 and I am also on cingular wireless...Doe the MMS work and the web access? Hope so.

mrleemarvin. What I found was that the phone boots into the offline profile. In order to be able to change the network mode from "Dual Mode" to "GSM", I had to change the profile from "Offline" to "General". Then, I was able to change modes.

You can go to the Nokia website and have the configuration settings for Internet and MMS sent to your phone. dmapr has the link. That works without a hitch.

Now that everything is functional, I am very happy with the phone. I hope you enjoy it. If you have any other questions, let me know.
