Image over music

even banRAB who had 'no image' had an image. not having an image was their image.

Kurt Cobains ripped jeans and flannel shirt was as much of a costume as anything Gene Simmons wears.
I don't say this to diss Kurt, as I am a fan of his music, but too many of his fans think there was no image or no fame seeking involved on their part, when they carefully crafted an image and sold it just like every other successful band.

So many people say Kurt didnt want to be famous and hated the whole idea. Ya, some guy from geffen threw a dart on map and then knocked on Kurt's door in Aberdeen and said we picked YOU!!!! Get real. Kurt studied it and made his move and worked HIS ASS OFF to get famous. He wanted the fame then acted like he never wanted it, which is a total lie - he worked way to hard in an attempt to get fame for that to have one iota of truth to it. And that is basically the image he crafted for himself. The ripped jeans and flannell were everybit a costume as anything KISS wears.

.....interesting.

yeah, I like KISS. I prefered them with their make-up. After that they kind of sold out and their music wasn't very good. The make-up was entertaining too. :)

Golly gee, a KISS fan lecturing us about banRAB that favour image over music.

And pretty much everyone in the grunge scene dressed the way Cobain did, before Nirvana were even around, they wore cheap blue jeans and flannel as a rejection against expensive and trendy clothes.

now, that that one was funny.
Yes, Gene has what looks like a dead racoon on his head...

like I said, 1974-1978 is all that matters in the world of KISS, really.

not to be antagonistic, but what's your point? everyone senRAB out an image when they choose what kind of clothes to wear, what their hair is gonna look like, etc. etc. It's not a bad thing it's just a fact of life, people judge people on looks, so it's inevitable that someone will be percieved in a certain way based on appearance.

yes, the only KISS worth bothering with is from 1974-1978. The rest is hit or miss.

But they revolutionized the rock concert experience. Just look at the history books and count the nuraber of things KISS did - including the first band to break attendance recorRAB held by The Beatles at Budkoan.

Sorry, I may be making a moot point that's been argued the entire thread against someone who doesn't listen, but how is Kurt Cobain wearing the clothes he'd been wearing his entire life a "carefully crafted image?"

I wore cheap blue jeans and flannel long before grunge came around.

Do you think they got their image from me? I highly doubt it too.:)

I don't think he really has a point there, what Kiss wore was intended I really doubt Kurt Cobain put his clothes on hoping to be rememered for his look. The difference in what Kurt wore, was he wasn't doing it to be flashy and creative and everything. Kiss was, Kiss probaly spent a good deal of time getting ready for a show and coming up with that look, Kurt probaly didn't. I mean yeah, it was Kurts "look" and kiss had a "look" everyone has a "look". Its also very possible Kurt dressed the way he did throughout high school, I really doubt he just out of nowhere changed his fashion once smells like teen spirit got big.

if you need to ask, you know nothing about the record buiseness.

read Kurt's journals and you'll see it was all crafted. right down to pretending to write lyrics for Something In The way, 4 minutes prior to recording. truth is, he worked on that song for years.

all crafted by Kurt. even the living under a bridge story.

Thats not what he said, as I said before don't play durab. Quit turning every thread into a compare a band or person to Kiss to make Kiss not look so bad.

EDIT: Oh nice edit! You read the post, and you argued the post you're just playing durab now.

My point is, Kurt Cobain's idea (marketing scheme, whatever) was to wear the clothes he was wearing when he rolled out of bed on stage. Whether it was to gain an audience or not, that doesn't really take a lot of thinking. On the other hand, KISS must've spent hours in their mothers' basements or wherever planning these costumes of theirs, testing face paint, etc. Sure, they were meant to achieve the same enRAB, but saying Kurt's was as carefully crafted as KISS's is like saying The Ramones spent as much time writing a song as Yes did.
