Boot from your installation disc.
Once the computer boots up, go to the top menu > Utilities > Disc Utility.
When your hard drive appears in the DU window, select it and click "Repair Permissions."
Restart your machine. If that doesn't work, you'll need to get a copy of Disc Warrior to fix it, or reinstall the OS.
