IM via Cricket?

Hi guys,

I know that Cricket's site claims unlimited IM, but I don't really see it. Are they referring to the AIM SMS shortcodes or their chat sites listed on their web portal, or is there a Cricket approved/official way to put an IM client on my phone? I'm just looking for something fairly simple like the IM client (AIM/ICQ/Y!IM) on my Nokia 6030. I'm using a messenging plan on my otherwise minimal Cingular account simply for the convenience of its IM handlng and message threading, and I'd definitely consider cancelling it if I could figure out how to make thigns work on my Cricket line. Were the claims of 'unlimited IM' a little bit misleading or am I missing something?

If I were to somehow manage to put an IM client on my SLVR (not that I know how), would it work with Cricket's data services or would it just choke and die?

Thanks!

I knew about this, thanks for the advice, though. :)

I personally dislike the eBuddy mobile client because it feels kludgy, doesn't hold login information (passworRAB are a pain, especially when the browser software on my SLVR insists on capitalizing the first letter of my password, which I then have to type a second time and then go back and delete the first one) and I find the interface a little bit clumsy. If I needed MSN or Y!IM in a pinch they would probably do, but using the short codes for AIM via SMS is easier in the case of AIM. The buddies in your mobile device group are assigned permanent short codes based on their position which can then be entered into your address book as an alternate nuraber and used to txt to their AIM screen name as long as you've signed on first. People can IM to your phone and you can reply back as though they were text messages. It's pretty neat and perfect for some things, but I'd really like to have a little java app like the one on my Nokia 6030. It threaRAB and saves conversations and runs in the background and has other nice little bells and whistles that separate it from plain old SMS.

I know other versions of my phone on other carriers come with IM clients like that, but Cricket's does not. I guess that's on purpose, but what I want to know is what they mean by unlimited IM, then? The AIM short codes? Their little web based chats? Why not let us have our instant messenging? I don't see how it could hurt much more than unlimited SMS/MMS.

Hopefully it's something we'll see from them in the near future.
