I'm trying to dig a swimming pool in my garden but having trouble?

I have only got plastic spades (not kiddy ones, but not a metal one) and whenever I dig, during the night foxes are pushing some of it back in again! I'm going crazy, this has taken me 6 months so far because I have a bad back so can only do a little each day. Any help?
